Elvis Week 2020: Elvis Started Dating Priscilla When She Was Only 14 Despite Calling Teenage Girls ‘jail Bait’
Presley even shared his mother’s bed “up until Elvis was a young teen,” simply because the family was so extremely poor that they couldn’t afford the luxury of two beds. Even though Elvis Presley had quite the active (and sometimes-predatory) sex life, he basically forbade then-girlfriend Priscilla from doing the same until after they tied the knot. While he had rumored dalliances with Nancy Sinatra and other stars during their courtship, he refused to consummate his relationship with Priscilla until their wedding night. As theDaily Mail reports, her perceived “purity” was integral for him to maintain his attraction to her. The two were seemingly inseparable, but it wasn’t a smooth road to the nuptials.
And while he was away filming ‘Viva La Vegas’, Presley began an affair with his co-star Ann-Margret who would refer to him as her ‘soulmate’. Several others, including one of Presley’s PR girlfriends, actress Lori Williams, would declare that Ann-Margret was the love of Presley’s life. Presley, for his part, claimed their affair was yet another PR relationship when Priscilla confronted him, and despite rumors flying about, he and Ann-Margret would never clarify the status of their initial and alleged romance.
Elvis and Priscilla met when she was in the ninth grade
She couldn’t bring herself to tell him how bad their financial situation was. Besides, she recalled, “Girls didn’t call boys in those days,” so she never said goodbye. The love story of Elvis and Priscilla Presley is a complex and generally divisive one.
Priscilla was keen to make it on her own and prove that her marriage to Elvis was not about money. Soon afterwards, however, her new lawyers persuaded her to increase her demands, pointing out that a star of Elvis’ stature could easily afford more for his former wife and child. Following the reception, Elvis and Priscilla boarded a private jet and enjoyed a short honeymoon in Palm Springs. On May 4, they flew back to Memphis and retreated to their private ranch, just over the Mississippi state line, for a three-week break. Many of Elvis’ inner circle joined them, although for the most part the couple were left alone and were able to enjoy each other’s company without the intrusion of the Memphis Mafia. In her book, Elvis and Me, Priscilla describes Presley as a very passionate man who was not overtly sexual towards her.
Despite Priscilla’s affair and Elvis’s on-and-off relationships with his co-stars and leading ladies, the first few years they were married seemed a happy time for the couple. However, when Elvis’s career took off again after his 1968 television special, he was constantly touring and playing in Las Vegas. Elvis had also been seeing other women on and off, often leaving Priscilla at home with Lisa Marie. On September 13, 1959, during Elvis Presley’s military service, he met Priscilla at a party at his rented home in Bad Nauheim, Germany. Elvis allegedly regressed to acting like an “awkward, embarrassed” boy-next-door figure in front of her. Priscilla’s parents were upset by her late return home the night of that first meeting and insisted that she never see Elvis again, but his eagerness for another rendezvous and his promise never to bring her home late again led them to relent.
Elvis Felt Pressured To Marry Priscilla

His behavior, obviously, had its roots in Presley’s dysfunctional upbringing and throughout his career, he had been with many teenage girls who were mostly only 13 or 14 years old. Priscilla eventually cheated on Elvis, and according to her book, she told him of the affair. She writes that Elvis grabbed her and “forcefully made love” to her, saying, “This is how a real man makes love to his woman.” The duo separated in 1972 and divorced a year later. Two years after that, Elvis went after yet another 14-year-old girl by the name of Reeca Smith. According to Nash, Smith claims Elvis did not “take advantage of her” during their six-month relationship. Elvis grows up within a close-knit, working class family, consisting of his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, who all live near one another in Tupelo.
Elvis soon became close to both parents and formed a very close bond with his mother. Despite the acrimonious ending of their marriage, Priscilla and Elvis remained close friends until his death in 1977. Eventually, Priscilla said of her lack of an intimate life with Elvis, “There weren’t too many more nights that I could take.” In 1972, she told Elvis she was having an affair with Stone and wanted to end their marriage, sending Elvis into a rage. She went on to date Stone, during which they enjoyed various hobbies together that she hadn’t been able to pursue much during her marriage to Elvis. The Presley family has a tragic real-life story, and their scandals aren’t limited to just the hip-swiveling “Hound Dog” singer.
Thereafter, he and Priscilla were frequently together until his departure from West Germany in March 1960. After Elvis left, Priscilla was inundated with requests for interviews from media outlets around the world. She received fan mail from Elvis fans, some positive and some negative, as well as mail from “lonesome G.I.s”.
“People have said, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe your parents let you go with this stranger’. But it was a very innocent time,” she told Good Morning America in 2017. “I liked him very much. I certainly felt safe. … We cannot compare it to today. We still had morals, high standard,” she said. Elvis died five years later, on Aug. 16, 1977, and according to the Graceland website, “While the estate he left was by no means broke, there was a cash flow problem, especially with Graceland costing over half a million dollars a year in maintenance and taxes.” Though Lisa Marie was a great joy in the couple’s life, “As the months passed, I realized that now that I was a mother, Elvis was uncertain how to treat me,” Priscilla wrote in Elvis and Me. “He carried me across the threshold of our house singing the ‘Hawaiian Wedding Song.’ He stopped and gave me a long, loving kiss, then proceeded to carry me upstairs to our bedroom.” It did, in fact, when she was 14 years old and met Elvis Presley in Bad Nauheim, Germany, where her family was living at the time and near where Elvis was stationed with the Army.
